Councillors get certain allowances for the work they do in the communityAllowances can only be paid to Members of local authorities in accordance with lawThe law requires local authorities to make a formal Scheme of Allowances for their Members and to establish and maintain an Independent Remuneration Panel to make recommendations to Councils about their Schemes The Council is required to have regard to recommendations that have been made by its Independent Remuneration PanelEach member receives a basic allowance Those members who hold a special responsibility receive an additional allowance for example leaders of political parties and members who chair certain CommitteesTo view each annual notice published detailing payments made to Members please click on the relevant link belowThere is also a link to a notice detailing approved changes to the Members Allowances Scheme dated September 2013
